Halloween 2008

Here are the pictures of Mickey and Minnie that I promised. The kids had a blast trick or treating in two neighborhoods this year. They loved their costumes, and would say, "Trick or Treat!" and "Thank you!" when they wanted .. although I am pretty sure they had no idea why they were dressed up and running from house to house where people kept giving them candy. It doesn't really make much sense if you think about it, but they really didn't care.. they had fun, and tons of candy to boot!

Friday evening was trick or treating at Gpa and Gma Meshews, where the kids, along with cousin Izy, were treated to wagon and shoulder rides as they made their way around the neighborhood. Saturday evening was trick or treating at Gpa and Gma Yoders, where they rode in the back of a pickup with cousins Jake, Jared, and Emma (yeah, the houses are a little further apart there.) I think a good time was had by all. And we have more candy then we know what to do with.

Here is cute Mr. Mickey, who says, "cheese" as soon as he sees the camera, and doesn't stop until you put it away.

And here's adorable Ms. Minnie, who was done trick or treating when she was done. The ears came off, the gloves came off, and she was done. She didn't throw a fit, just sat down wherever she was .. even if that was smack-dab in the middle of the road.

Addyson and her buddy Tress.

Tress has found some new hiding spots of his own. Being small has it's perks. And yes, I did say "his" .. Tress is a boy!

This is a little cubby we use for some office supplies.. obviously a little comfy bed in his eyes.

So I have to share a story .. one of those that wasn't quite so funny as it was happening, but now I can look back and laugh. I had run to the store earlier this week and picked up some things for my nephew's birthday. I came home only to find the long-sleeved shirt I thought I picked up was actually a short-sleeve shirt. Bummer. So, the kids and I were going to make a "quick" trip to Kohls to exchange it Saturday morning. Little did I know they were having some major sale that everyone and their brother was attending. We have been in there before, the kids and I, and they do really well, especially in the double stroller carts. This day we walked in and there were no strollers in sight .. every single one, including the double strollers that not many people need, were gone. Okay, no problem .. I just explained to the kids that there were no more and they would have to walk. They did great following me around like little ducklings as we weaved our way to the boys department and picked out a shirt. Aeron wanted to hold it and swept the entire floor with it as we made our way to customer service to exchange the shirts. Addyson found several things I had to tell her to put back that she never would have had the chance to see if I would have whisked them through the store in the stroller. One or the other always had to stop and ask "what's that!?" or fiddle with a little display.. nothing bad, we just didn't make it around even half as quick as I had planned. On our way I snuck in a few dirty looks to several women pushing double stroller carts with no kids in sight and maybe one shirt in the cart that was just too heavy to carry around with them as they shopped. Humph. We made it to customer service and got all taken care of.. and then the lady handed the bag to Addyson.. crap! She took off running knowing full well that Aeron wanted to carry the shirt he just drug all over the store. Aeron took off after her yelling, "my shirt! my geen shirt!" At least they took off towards the exit, but I quickly grabbed my purse and chased after them saying, "Excuse me.. sorry.. excuse me," more than I could count. I caught up to them, snatched the bag and Aeron in one arm and took Addyson by the hand and led them out the store, both in hysterics. At that point I just wanted to get out of the store rather than stand there and try to calm them both down and explain how to share and take turns and be nice and all that other jazz. I already had the store staring at me .. I didn't think I needed to show off my wonderful parenting ability at that point to whispering women with their one sweater and double stroller carts with no kids. Sorry, I'm over it, really. :)
Happy November everyone!

Great story, Chan. I think we've all been there. And yes, it's way more humorous when you're looking back that in the moment!! Loved the costumes too.
