Ike's Fury

We had a lot of brush to burn after all the trees and branches that were down from last weekend's windstorm from Hurrican Ike. We had brush from 4 or 5 different houses, so there was a ton to burn, but it didn't take long at all once it was started. The kids had fun helping daddy get things on the pile.

We only lost power for about 12 hours starting Sunday evening, and then for about another 7 hours Monday after having it back Monday morning for a few hours. We were very lucky this go-round. The kids got so frustrated when they couldn't turn on the lights. They would try every room (as did I, I don't know how many times - it's such a habit when you walk in a dark room, no matter how many times you remind yourself there is no electricity), and say, "No light. You fix it?" They did enjoy using the flashlights and watching candles burn, though.

Here is Addyson on a typical morning these days. She is often cold and wants to be covered with her blanket. And yes, baby is peeking out her blanket on purpose, too. Addyson is our cold-blooded kid, while Aeron is hot-blooded.

The kids like going up the slide the wrong way, as well as coming down the slide in all different ways. Don't you remember how it got boring to just go down on your butt facing forward every time?
