For some reason this week I had the hardest time with losing things. The kids and I just walked in the door after work one day and a package had come from UPS (lots of packages this time of year!). It was FILLED with those lovely styrofoam peanuts. My first inkling was to just get the object out and get the box of peanuts to the basement, stat. I had a change of heart and the kids had a ball. I knew it would be a pain in the patooty to clean up, but it was worth it. For close to a half hour I was able to just get things together from being gone all day, put things away, clean up, get dinner ready for the kids .. all kinds of things! Before baths it was time to clean up and boy was that fun. Those darn peanuts get very static-y and they crunch into little pieces when little feet walk around on them. Eventually we did get things cleaned up, although I am still finding little pieces here and there .. found some in the washer today. Anyway, the point of this story is that I took off my socks because the styrofoam was sticking to them and making it even harder to clean up. I saw Aeron take off with one of them at one point, but didn't pay attention to where he left it. At the end of the night I was searching high and low for that sock and could not find it. I searched the normal "hiding" places .. behind the recliner, in the coffee table drawer, my laptop case, the dog bin, under the couch, in the toy basket .. everywhere. The next morning I kept asking Aeron where my sock was and he responded with his normal, "Huh?" But did seem to try to look around for it. Later that day he came walking over to me with it in his hand. I think he found it in the diaper bag (I swear I looked there, too). He was so proud!
Peanut pictures (I didn't think about taking a picture right before we cleaned up .. this is nothing!)
We also lost one of Aeron's shoes this week .. I think I finally found it before I went to bed that night, but it was lost for most of the day. That one ended up being in the bathroom hiding by the rug. I take inventory pretty much every night as I'm straightening up and putting toys/things away, and I almost always find everything somewhere. For some reason this week was a challenge in that department.
"Huh?" and "No." These are the two most-used words in my house. It's actually been going on for a few weeks now and I keep forgetting to blog about it. "Huh" would be Aeron. I don't know exactly where he picked this up, but it's his first response just about anytime you ask him anything. Sometimes I think he does it on purpose. "No" would be Addyson. It's not a mean or whiney "no", just a nice little "no." I think it's a little game with Addyson to say "no" to questions you ask (although this week I think she's finally starting to get out of this little phase.) She will say "yes," especially when she really does want something.
Mom: Did you want some milk?
Aeron: Huh?
Mom: Did you want some milk?
Aeron: Huh?
Mom: Milk .. do you want some?
Mom: Milk .. do you want some?
Aeron: Huh?
Mom: Did you see the snow?
Aeron: Huh? (this could go on forever)
Mom: Is your name Addyson?
Addyson: No. (with a little smirk)
Mom: Is your name Aeron?
Addyson: No.
Mom: Do you want Santa to bring you anything this year?
Addyson: No.
Mom: Do you want a million dollars?
Addyson: (silent)
She doesn't say "no" to the million dollars question very often at all. Smart little girl.
Here we are with our reading lesson for the day..
