We were happily driving down to Lancaster with the kids playing nicely in the back snacking on pretzels, sipping milk, and drawing on their new magnetic boards. Aeron all of the sudden started whining a little .. I looked back and he was puking all over himself. Another puke, and yet another. By this time I had flew into the back and started catching it in my cupped hands. After he was done I sat there wondering what the heck I did that for because what the heck was I going to do now? I couldn't touch anything and we were driving down the interstate at 65 mph. I told Matt to roll down the window and I tossed it out .. splattering the car all the way back. We didn't get any cars behind us, thank goodness (we had someone following us down.) Yum. We found the wipes (thank goodness I pack some extras .. we actually returned home with one, count it, one wipe.) It's amazing what you can clean with baby wipes. We took the next exit and stopped at a gas station .. stripped the poor boy down, who by this time was happy and laughing. I wiped him down with some wipes and Wendy's napkins, put clean clothes on him and started on the puddle in the car seat. Yuck. Matt ran in the restroom and rinsed out the clothes, bunny, and blue baby that also got hit. We stuck a blanket on his seat, strapped him in and we were off. He actually brought back up some juice a few miles down the road again, but I heard the whining and whimpering and was able to grab some more Wendy's napkins to catch most of it .. enough that I only had to change his shirt when we arrived at the bowling alley, at least. Three shirts in less than 2 hours - again, I had packed a few extras. Thank goodness for being proactive on their packing. We pulled into the bowling alley with 10 minutes to spare. And just an hour or so later, Aeron was scarfing down dinosaur-shaped chicken fingers for lunch. We think it was just some car sickness or something, because he was perfectly fine after that.
The bowling went quick and in a few hours, the four of us were on our way to Cincinnati to see my sister and her boyfriend. We greeted them with a smelly load of laundry including two car seat covers (you know, the ones that are a joy to get off and on with all the straps and pieces and parts you have to remove first, and yes, two - Addyson decided to pee through her diaper - we changed her before we left the bowling alley - and pants and leave the car seat pad soggy and wet .. she was not to be left out in the mess-making. :) ) Anyway, what a great place they have and what wonderul hosts. The kids loved their house. They have pet cats and frogs! Addyson loved the frogs, and even held one. Aeron loved watching them, and said he wanted to hold one until we tried to put it on his hands, then he changed his mind. The poor cats were a little frightened with the little people and decided to hide out until they went to sleep - yes, my kids like to pet and chase and try to hold kitties that don't always want to be held, so they were smart. Thank you so much, Char and Brian .. we had a great time and it was so awesome to see you!
Aeron lounged on their couch watching "The Muppets" and chomped on one of his favorite snacks - pretzels.
The kids even slept really well that night. I figured they would be up bright and early being at a strange house, but they slept in about as late as at home. It was great. It was their first night not in a crib, too .. and they did great sprawled out all over the floor - sorry, I thought I rotated that picture - they didn't really spend the night on their heads.
We spent the next day (Father's Day) with Char and Brian at the Cincy Zoo. We hit just about every exhibit. It was tremendously warm .. close to 90 degrees .. the kids were hot and tired from car trips and no naps, so it was not without a meltdown or two, but they loved the animals and overall we had a great time. Here is dad with his kiddos. What a great daddy! Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there.
I think a favorite for the kids was the elephants. It was hard to leave each exhibit, because they didn't want to stop watching the animals, but when they realized we would see something new, they would eventually give in. We watched the elephants for quite a while.
The kids really enjoyed this ride. The stairs were a lot faster than the steep hill we just went down, so they got a lift. Char and I just cheered them on. :)
Another favorite had to be the birds .. where you could walk right into their huge cage and they were flying around with you. The kids each had a chance to feed a bird or two. It was priceless. Daddy even found a friend.. this bird flew to him several times and would not jump to anyone else's finger. He just kept licking Matt's neck. It was too funny. At one time he had two birds perched on him .. mind you he wasn't even trying to lure them around, they just came to him. Who knew he was such a bird-man? :) In any case, the kids loved it!

It sounds like car sickness. Gabe used to get sick in the car if we were in it over an hour. Exspecially if he got to warm. He still gets quesey at times. We just try to keep them cook as possilbe on the long trips. The air is on high most of the trip and us in the front are freezing. I have had to jump in the backseat more then once for Gabe. Not fun at all and exspecially since it makes me sick to clean up puke. My kids are going to the zoo for the first time this weekend without us. I am sad. But they are going away for the weekend so my sister and bil are spoiling them.
