The Wayne County Fair has come and gone once again. The kids and I visited several days enjoying the food, the animals, and the kiddie rides with cousin Emma one day. For me, this starts the race to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. These years just fly by anymore.
The kittens are getting bigger by the day, and we still spend time down in the barn with them pretty much every day.
Another thing the kids love doing while we are down by the barn is riding their bikes. We tried just a time or two earlier this summer to take off training wheels, but to no avail. The kids and I were in the barn this evening and Aeron was asking about his bike and whether he will get a new one when this one is old. I told him the next one he gets will probably be a bigger one. His eyes lit up, but then he asked if it will have training wheels. I told him yes, until he learns to ride without. This leads up to skill learned #1 .. he got all excited and said, "Mom, take these training wheels off, I'm going to learn to ride by myself right now." He was so matter-of-fact. I took them off, we went out on the drive, I gave him a little push to get started and off he went. No kidding, it was that easy .. I didn't run beside him, I didn't hold on .. he just took off riding all by himself, just like he said he would. All I could do was laugh. We were all so excited .. Addyson was cheering him on. He had a few little wrecks here and there as the night went on when he tried to turn to sharp, but said quickly, "I'm okay!" and jumped right back up and took off. What independence.

Addyson of course, wanted to try as well .. she wasn't quite as successful, but Addyson recently mastered her own skill (#2).. learning to whistle. She accidentally did it once a few weeks back, and then practiced for several days straight. Now she can do it on cue and has so much fun with it. She likes to whistle songs and whistle for the dog to come in. There are days that she whistles from morning til night.. it's so new and exciting for her. I don't think I learned to whistle until I was in jr. high.
The latest cute saying: I asked Aeron to pick up his shoes. He said, "if you grab 'em that would be helpful."
